Diabetes is a metabolic state where a person’s body has a high blood glucose level. This is because of various reasons. Firstly, the insulin production in the body is inadequate or secondly, the body does not react to the insulin produced in the body.

There are Two Types of Diabetes:

1) Type 1 Diabetes:

In this type, the body does not produce insulin at all. People below the age of 40 or in their teenage tend to produce this form of diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is rare. Only 10% of the total diabetic population suffers from this form of diabetes.

Patients with type 1 diabetes require taking insulin injections for the rest of their life.

2) Type 2 Diabetes:

In this type, the body stops producing enough insulin for proper function, or in many cases, the cells stop reacting to the insulin produced. This condition is also known as Insulin resistance.

Approximately 90% of all cases of diabetes worldwide are of this type. This type of diabetes can be cured by losing weight, monitoring blood glucose levels, following a healthy diet, and exercising daily. But it tends to get worse as it is progressive in nature.

Today we are going to discuss some natural ingredients available in our kitchen which help in fighting diabetes. This ingredient is Honey. Yes, it sounds absurd how can this sweet liquid treat a disease that needs to be far away from anything sweet. But it’s true that honey, when taken in a limited way can do wonders in treating diabetes.

Let Us Look Into How It Works:

1) Great Substitute for Sugar:

Honey can be good for sugar as it does not raise blood sugar like glucose and fructose. So generally we see diabetic patients are very fond of sugar but due to restrictions imposed by the disease, one cannot eat them. Do not worry. The sweet tooth can be satisfied with a spoon of honey.

2) Honey Lowers HDL Cholesterol:

It may have a neutral or slightly positive effect on HDL levels.

3.) Honey Does Not Increase Appetite and Leads to Lesser Caloric Overload:

Honey keeps the stomach full for a longer period of time and hence results in fewer calories for a diabetic patient. It is extremely useful.

4) Proper Sleep:

Diabetic patients often have to urinate, breaking sleeping patterns. Honey improves mental acuity, which helps get proper sleep at night.

5) Taste Bud:

For those who enjoy a sweet taste but are diabetic, taking a small amount of honey, the taste bud will adjust the sugar intake level and one can enjoy the flavour of honey without craving more sweetness.

6) Increases Energy Level:

As honey has vitamin B, it produces energy and is beneficial for the nervous system as well. So as we all know diabetic patients get tired very fast, and honey can be consumed to boost that energy level.

7) Better Digestion:

Honey has such enzymes that help in better digestion. Better digestion leads to other benefits as well. If digestion is well other organs of the body work systematically.

8) Healing Properties:

Diabetic patients due to the medicines they take on a daily basis suffer from gastric problems and honey is a great reliever for such problems.

Treating diabetes honey can cure various other diseases when taken in regulated amounts. One should not consume too much honey as it is detrimental in type 2 cases. A limited amount consumed can always be healthy.
