Let us check out different types of best fish cooking recipes which you can easily prepare. Some of these recipes with fish are authentic while some are very modern versions of dishes that you have already tried out at restaurants.
1. Fish Fry:
This is a popular appetizer and you can get this in almost all food stalls. These fish recipes can find widely on the roadside shops and people love to have this. Generally this recipe of fish is served with some fresh salad consisting of cucumber, onions, green chillies and tomato sauce or green chutney which is made with coriander and green chillies. You can make this at home too.
Method: You will need fillets of any boneless fish about 500 gms. This will make for as many fillets as you are taking. Next you need to marinate the fishes in a teaspoon of lemon juice, salt and pepper. In a platter take flour and sieve it well with salt and pepper. In another bowl make a batter with beaten eggs, garam masala powder, cumin powder, and crushed garlic. After 30 minutes of marinating, take the fishes out of the marinade and dip into the batter and place in the dry flour mixture. Put these into deep frying vessel and fry till these are slightly golden brown. Strain and soak excess fat on paper towels. Serve hot.
2. Fish Finger:
These are cooked in a similar way like fish fry. However, these look like French fries because of their shape. The fillets need to be widely cut into thick strips and then the process is almost as similar to that of the fish fry preparation.
Method: Take 500 gms of thick fillets. Use a knife carefully or a kitchen scissor and cut these into thick strips of 2 inch each. Next marinade these in soy sauce, pepper, lemon juice, and salt. Keep these in the fridge for about 30 minutes. Meanwhile make a dry powder with crushed biscuits or breadcrumbs, salt and pepper. You can use other dry herbs if you want to. Heat enough oil in a wok for deep frying. Take the fillets out of the fridge and dip into the dry batter. Put these immediately into the heated oil. Fry till crisp and strain excess fat into paper towels. Serve hot with sauce.
3. Fish Nuggets:
This is another variation of fish finger. You can make this fish recipes with scrapped off or pieces of fish that you have not used up in your cutlets or soups. The only reason being these are made like small balls and the shape does not matter.
Method: You can take fillets or any boneless variety. You can also boil any variety of your choice with bones and then separate the bones to take the flesh out. Next mate a dry mixture of flour, dry herbs of your choice, a pinch of garam masala powder, salt and pepper. Put in some breadcrumbs into this mixture. Next in a bowl beat up eggs, garlic paste and green chilli paste. Put salt and pepper to season the batter and put into the fishes. Dip into this and next coat these with dry mixture. Keep in fridge for a while for it to get firmed up. Then deep fry these.
4. Thai Fish Curry:
This is a tasty curry made with coconut milk and lemon grass as the main ingredient.
Method: Take any choice of fish which does not have excess of any flavour. You can also take thick fillets for this. Sauté the red chilli powder with thai sauce, lemon grass and garlic in a wok. Put in 2 cups of coconut milk and chunks of bringal if you want to. You can use peas too. Put in the fishes and season with salt and pepper. Cover and cook till done and the gravy is thick.

5. Indian Fish Curry:
These types of fish recipes are a common thing of Indian households. You can make these with any variety of fish. The fishes do not need to be boneless. You can make it with bones and separate while eating. Mostly these are served over steamed rice.
Method: The fish pieces are first fried lightly with turmeric, red chilli powder and salt. Next these are kept separate and 2 table spoons of oil is heated. You can put any type of spices like only cumin seeds, ginger and bay leaves; or you can put ginger garlic and onions along with whole garam masala. Two types of spices will give two types of flavour. You can also put chopped tomatoes, green chillies and fresh coriander. Put the fishes into it and enough water to make gravy. Cover and cook till done.
6. Fish Biriyani:
This biriyani is qute popular. This is done n almost exact way like chicken biriyani but cooking time is less because fish cooks faster.
Method: The rice is separately cooked with whole spices. The fish should be taken in boneless forms in chunky pieces. You can slightly shallow fry the fishes with whole or powdered garam masala, and seasoning. Then when the rice is cooked, layer the fish and rice in a big handi and put saffron milk over it. Cover and put in dum for about 1 hour in low flame. Till properly cooked.
7. Chilli Fish:
This is a popular Chinese dish and very tasty. You can have this with Chinese rice or noodles.
Method: Cut fillets into cubes or chunky pieces. Make a batter with eggs, flour, ginger garlic paste, red chilli powder or green chilli powder, salt and pepper. Dip the fishes into this and deep fry. Then strain these on paper towel. Make the gravy with sauces and capsicum. Put chunky pieces of onions and slit green chillies into this. You can put spring onions too. Put little water and corn flour mixed in it. This will make a thick gravy. Put the fried balls of fish and mix. Serve hot.
8. Fish Manchurian:
This is a variation of the above fish recipes. You can make this in the same way.
Method: Make the fish balls in the same way as mentioned in previous recipe. Next make a sauce in the exact same way but in this case use chopped onions, chopped capsicum and chopped green chillies. Do not use too much water. Use only 2 tbsp water mixed with corn flour and put 1 cup of chopped spring onions. Put the balls into this and mix well. Serve garnished with coriander leaves.

9. Fish Soup:
This is a healthy soup which is made mostly with either vegetable or fish stock. You can use various types of chopped or grated vegetables into this.
Method: Sauté garlic, chopped onions, bell peppers and any other types of vegetables that you would want to use. The vegetables should be very finely chopped. You can do it without vegetables and only green chillies, onions/spring onions, and garlic. Put in the fishes and the fish stock. Check the seasoning of salt and pepper. Cover and cook till done. Put corn flour mixed with 2 tbsp water and this will thicken the soup. Next take it out serve with some cream on top.
10. Fish Cutlet:
This is a tasty appetizer and can be easily cooked.
Method: The fish is marinated in flour batter mixed with basic green herbs, eggs, onion, ginger, garlic and green chilli paste, turmeric, some salt, pepper, garam masala powder. It is then coated into bread crumbs mixture and given the shape of cutlets with palm. Then these are shallow fried and strained in paper towels.
11. Hilsa Curry:
This is a popular dish of Bangladesh and also the Eastern parts of India. It is also popular in parts of Maharashtra in the native Bengali households and those who have adapted to this popular cuisine.
Method: The hilsa are cut into chunky pieces and taken back home from the market. Mustard oil is heated and these are lightly fried with turmeric, salt and red chilli powder. These are then kept separate. More mustard oil is heated and 2 to 4 teaspoons of mustard paste is put into it. Green chillies are put whole or in slit form. Black cumin is given about 2 tbsp or not given as per choice. Some salt, turmeric and chilli powder is given into this. Enough water is added and the fried fish. It is then covered and cooked till done.
12. South India Fish Curry:
South Indian fish curry resembles Thai fish curry except for the fact that this is made a bit sour and also the flavour of curry leaves gives this an authentic touch.
Method: Fish is either lightly fried with turmeric, red chilli powder and salt or sometimes directly put into the gravy. The gravy is made with either whole spices or simply mustard seeds, curry leaves, grated coconut and coconut milk. Kokum or tamarind pulp is usually added in place of lemon for the tang. The fish is put into it and cooked till done.

13. Skewer Fish Kebab:
These fish recipes are done with similar marination as is used for tandoori items.
Method: Skewers are placed in cold water before usage. Onions are cut into halves and bell peppers into big chunks. Tomatoes are used whole or in halves if they are too large in size. These along with chunky pieces of boneless fish are marinated in turmeric, garam masala, ginger garlic paste, green chilli paste, refined oil and lemon juice.
A pinch of edible red color is optional. These are then put into the skewers in a line in same manner so that they look similar when taken out in platter. First the onions, then tomatoes, then bell peppers then fish. It is again followed by bell peppers, tomatoes and onions. The sequence has to be kept in mind. These are then put on grill or tandoor till these are done. Sometimes these are given a rotation and basked with more oil. These are then taken out and served with some sprinkle of lemon juice, green chutney, and salad. Chopped coriander can also be sprinkled over it.
14. Grilled Fish:
Grilled fish is very healthy. It required less oil and you can have a whole meal.
Method: Use minimal seasoning like lemon juice, garlic paste, green chilli paste, a pinch of turmeric powder ( optional) , salt, pepper and dry mixed herbs 1 tbsp. Marinate the it and keep in fridge for 20 minutes. After required time, place on grill racks basked with some oil and cook till done.
15. Tandoori Fish:
This is a tasty side dish or a main course. Either way, this is very spicy and cooked in a tandoor. If you do not have a tandoor, then you can use a microwave OTG. This can be cooked in OTG for about 20 minutes. You will need to bask the it with oil now and then so that the outside becomes crispy.
Method: Marinate any less bone fish like pomfret or similar with tandoori masala, garam masala, ginger garlic paste, lemon juice, a pinch of edible red color (optional) , salt, pepper and marinate the fish in it. After 20 minutes or so, bask it with some oil and put it on grill rack or put it inside low heat tandoor. When done, serve with lemon juice and chat masala sprinkled on top.
